Girl with Autism get's kicked out of Resturant

Most people living with Autism do not know how to cope or rationalize in the way that is considered common. So being told something like there is no pizza is a very hard thing for a person with Autism to hear and deal with. It is very common, that this can result in the person screaming, and attacking themselves and others as a result. This in no way is a temper tantrum. This is part of the frustrating disorder of Autism and the families living with this experience this everyday

What is ABA Therapy?

ABA, stands for " Applied Behavior Analysis"

Some of you may have seen or herd of the story on WFive about Carly Fleischmann.
Carly is a 13 year old girl living with Autism spectrum disorder. Carly Fleischmann is unable to speak a single syllable. But two years ago, she defied the odds and started typing words with the help of specialized computer software.

This is largly due to the fact that she has been getting ABA for many years now. The therapy includes a team of 12 part-time therapists working in shifts, and amounts to about 40 hours a week...

Do you know what this even costs??????????
Between $80,000.00 and $100,000.00 per year.

Here are some links that will fill you in with more info as to what if anything our country is doing for these children.
As well, more links related to ABA!!!

Walk for Autism

Dear Friends and Family,
Autism Speaks is getting ready for its annual signature event on June 8th in Toronto, Walk for Autism Research. I am planning to be a part of that Walk and I am asking you to join me in raising critically-needed funds for autism research by making a contribution in support of my Walk.

http://www.walknowforautism.org/c.otJTJ7MQIqE/b.3618035/siteapps/personalpage/ShowPage.aspx?c=otJTJ7MQIqE&b=3618035&sid=6eIFLVMxGfLNJPPpHnF

Autism is a complex brain disorder that often inhibits a person's ability to communicate, respond to surroundings, or form relationships with others. First identified more than 50 years ago, autism is typically diagnosed by the age of two or three. Autism affects people of all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Few disorders are as devastating to a child and his or her family. While some people with autism are mildly affected, most people with the condition will require life long supervision and care and have significant language impairments. Many children with autism will never be able to tell their parents they love them. Currently, the causes of autism are unknown and there are no specific medical treatments or cure. Physicians have no blood test or scan that can definitively diagnose the disorder. As such, the diagnosis of autism is based solely upon observations of behavior. Despite increasing national interest and high prevalence, autism research is one of the lowest funded areas of medical research by both public and private sources. Whatever you can give will help! I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.

Sincerely,
Steph and Ian Kalau
